The RollsRoyce Dawn has model years spanning from 2016 to 2023. The Dawn was unveiled in 2015 as the luxury brand’s most opulent convertible ever and its third in 50 years, tracing history all the way back to the Rolls Royce Cornice of 1966. The Dawn was Rolls-Royce’s smallest model at the time, although that didn’t mean they spared any effort. The most exclusive Rolls-Royce Dawns are part of the Back Badge family- a division of Rolls-Royce they call their ‘alter ego’, with a greater focus on power, torque and control.
What the Dawn has to offer
The Dawn only had one bodystyle, one engine and one trim level, but you’re not left wanting luxury features when it comes to Rolls-Royce. Essentially a convertible version of the Wrath coupe, every model comes with a detuned version of the 6.6-litre turbocharged V12, now making 563bhp. The Rolls Royce Dawn doesn’t have any direct competitors- the closest you can get is Bentley’s Continental GTC; thus, the dawn sits in a class of its own. No other four-seat convertible offers this much luxury, poise and class. As with any modern Rolls-Royce, you can personalise the exterior and interior details to your heart’s content. Naturally, quality is unrivalled throughout, and the fabric roof is reportedly as close to a coupe in terms of refinement as you could get without the car being just that- a coupe.
Interior and tech
The interior is spectacular, with almost every element being customisable. Buyers were able to choose from a vast array of bespoke clocks, treadplates, veneers and leathers to create the Dawn of their dreams. The Rolls-Royce Dawn has genuinely useable rear seats, which seems rare for a convertible, making the Dawn a true 2+2. The Dawn’s infotainment (which can be hidden by a rotating wooden panel), is controlled by The Spirit of Ecstasy Rotary Controller, which thanks to BMW, works faultlessly. The Dawn houses tech, including Bespoke Audio, which uses a microphone to monitor ambient noise and adjust the volume and tone, which comes from 16 individually tuned speakers.
What are the running costs?
A Seemingly pointless section for a Rolls-Royce- regardless of the Dawn’s low positioning in Rolls Royce’s lineup, as does the V12, which is nestled snugly under the Dawn’s bonnet. Thus, the Dawn claims 20 mpg combined fuel economy and CO2 emissions of 345 g/km. It was not very economical, but wafting around under the power of a V12 was never meant to be. Instead, the Dawn focuses on a driving experience unlike any other manufacturer, and a lack of economy could be seen as a small price to pay for such an experience.
