Mercedes-Benz S-Class For Sale

Used Mercedes-Benz S-Class for sale

The first time the world saw the ‘S-Class’ nomenclature in use was in 1972. Since then, Mercedeshas used the S-Class name to carve out a section in history as one of the most luxurious, high-quality, over-engineered cars to ever make production. The S-Class is a highly important model for the brand, as it keeps Mercedescompetitive in the luxury saloon segment, which only serves to strengthen Mercedes’ premium image and reputation.

What does the S-Class have to offer?

The S-Class represents everything Mercedes-Benz could offer to their customers if they wanted a saloon car. Speed, comfort and refinement by the bucketload. That’s the S-Class. Past generations of S-Class are known for being exquisitely, unnecessarily over-engineered, most notably the 90’s W140 S-Class, with its double-glazed windows. The modern-day examples carry on this noble lineage, except with an altered focus towards technology. If you buy an S-Class, that’s what you’re buying into- perhaps the most dominant premium saloon on the market. What you’ll end up with then, is an extremely comfortable, desirable, refined and devastatingly capable saloon which can very easily be all the car you could ever need. At the top of the S-Class family tree is the AMG S63 E performance, which unfortunately ditches the earlier model’s 5.5-litre V8 and the even earlier 6.0-litre V12, in favour of a 4.0-litre V8, this time with hybrid assistance. This new powertrain means the S-Class is more powerful than ever though.

Interior and tech

Mercedeshave always been excellent at interiors, and the S-Class represents their best efforts yet. The two screens sit on top of the dashboard and flow easily into the door trims. Ahead of the driver sits a 12.3” display, which has a switchable 3D functionality. There are two different versions of the HUD available, the larger of which uses augmented reality to project arrows relating to navigation into your eyeline. There is an array of display modes for the instruments that can be changed using a trackpad located on the steering wheel. The portrait-style, large central screen uses a host of five cameras, five radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to present you with a real-time overhead view of the car’s position on the road. The S-Class’ highlight is the rear of the cabin however, which benefits from plush seating and more than enough legroom. This just touches the surface of the S-Class’s capability and gives an insight into the effort Mercedeshave put into the S-Class, as it benefits the model’s history.

What are the running costs?

The S350d is expected to be the most environmentally friendly non-hybrid S-Class, which claims up to 44.8mpg and 163g/km of CO2 emissions. Meanwhile, the top-spec S63 E-Performance manages an impressive 64.2mpg and 33g/km of CO2, thanks to its hybridisation, showing the range-topping model’s breadth of ability. Neither will be cheap to run either, but if you take suitable care of your S-Class and maintain the car properly, the S-Class will likely be bulletproof.
