Mercedes-Benz GLE For Sale

Used Mercedes-Benz GLE for sale

The Mercedes-Benz GLE, formerly the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, is a mid-size premium SUV, fitting between the smaller GLC and the larger GLS. It first came into production in 2015 and holds an important place in the Mercedes lineup, facing rivals such as the Volvo XC90 and BMW X5.

What does the GLE have to offer?

The Mercedes-Benz GLE is a very sensible proposition. It’s comfy, quiet, practical, and doesn’t try to be too sporty like many other SUVs. Looks are up to personal preference, but good build quality is just a fact. And it’s a fact the GLE can cite, and pair with good cabin space, making the GLE a sound proposition if you’re in the market for a car of its ilk. The newer, second iteration of the GLE is slightly roomier than its predecessor due to the wheelbase being stretched in comparison. Under the bonnet, the GLE relies on a large range of Mercedesengines, meaning you can choose from petrol or diesel and four cylinders or six. The newer still third iteration of the Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV benefits from the addition of a hybrid range, with every model getting mild hybrid tech or plug-in capabilities. The GLE’s attempts to clean up its game only serves to grow its appeal. The latest, top-of-the-range model is the GLE 63 S, which has a ridiculous 603bhp, twin-turbo V8, giving the car some real performance.

Interior and tech

The third generation of GLE boasts the most tech yet, with Mercedes’ Latest MBUX infotainment system that dominates the dashboard, with twin 12.3” displays: one that displays important driver information and another that serves a variety of functions, from media to navigation. The third generation also benefits from air suspension as standard and has an upmarket Burmester sound system. The longer wheelbase in the mark 2 GLE also makes enough room for seven seats, though the third row is probably for children only. The cabin quality is up to par with what we expect from Mercedes. All GLEs are four-wheel drive, and the supremely competent GLE 450 and 450d straight sixes are aided by a small electric motor that Mercedesnames ‘EQ Boost’, which adds 20bhp to help smoothen out acceleration and harvests energy when coasting.

What are the running costs?

The 300d will most likely offer the lowest running costs, but the GLE won’t be an especially cheap car to run. The entry-level 300d claims 39.8mpg with CO2 emissions of 187g/km, while at the other end of the spectrum, the AMG GLE 63 S fares far worse, achieving 22.3mpg and 288g/km. Over the years, Mercedes has nurtured a reputation for build quality and the reliability that comes with it—a reputation the GLE doesn’t jeopardize.
