Used Mercedes-Benz EQS for sale

The EQS first came on sale in 2021 and filled a much-needed hole in the Mercedes-Benz line-up, as a fully electric saloon. By following the nomenclature of the Mercedeselectric lineup (EQ), Mercedeshas kept its EQ electrified range separate to its combustion/ hybrid range of C/E/S- Class saloons.

What the EQS has to offer

The silent electric nature of the EQS pairs very well with Mercedes’ refinement, making progress effortlessly smooth and quiet. The EQS offers a window into Mercedes’ all-electric future and is an example of what the brand can do when building a luxury electric car. Two variants of the EQS are available- the EQS 450+, and the more powerful EQS AMG 53. The two have wildly different characteristics, with the EQS 450+ having a much more impressive range of 390 miles between charges and the EQS AMG 53 packing 649bhp of heat. This makes it substantially quicker than the 450+, which will go from 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds. The EQS is a complete, expensive package if you’re in the market for any luxurious saloon, never mind an EV. Easy, comfortable progress is the EQS’ strong point, and in a reasonable degree of comfort too.

Interior and tech

The EQS is full to the brim with tech, most notably of which is the optional ‘Hyperscreen’. Contained in the huge glass front that sweeps across the full face of the dashboard sits three separate screens. The first is in front of the driver and measures 12.3 inches across. This displays important driver information. The one in the middle is expansive and displays functions such as navigation. Finally, the screen in front of the passenger can view the nav, choose radio or media to listen to, watch television, or choose from a few simple games to entertain them. Side note- some of the features cannot be accessed whilst on the move due to their potential for distracting the driver. The car has an array of sensors- 350 to be precise, that measure the driver’s attention levels, what the driver is touching, and where the driver is looking. The EQS even has a feature whereby you can select which wing mirror to adjust simply by looking at it and move the adjustment toggle accordingly.

What are the running costs?

The most efficient EQS, the 450+ can go up to 464 miles on one charge, whereas the EQS AMG 53 can manage a much smaller, but still respectable, 365 miles between charges. Either version of the EQS can be charged up to 200kW, which can add up to 186 miles of range in 15 minutes. Still not as convenient as fuelling a combustion-engined car. Charging the car at home is advisable- public charging points are a tad sparse and are reportedly unreliable. The cost to charge your EQS will vary according to the tariff, but a standard economy 7 tariff will effectively cost 2.3 pence per mile. The EQS isn’t a cheap car to buy and will, therefore, be costly to insure. Electric cars need less maintenance than ICE cars- there are fewer moving parts, but it’s still a good idea to stick to the manufacturer’s service schedule.
