Named after Italy’s capital, Rome, the Ferrari Roma was first made in 2019 and filled a grand tourer-shaped niche in Ferrari’s lineup as a mid-front engined 2+ coupe. Although the Roma has a few things in common with the Portofino, Ferrari was very insistent at the time the Roma would not be the same.
What the Roma has to offer
The Roma has a very well-judged ride that suits its GT purpose, though the Roma definitely has a sporty edge, with its five setting Manettino now offering ‘Race’ mode. The ride quality reportedly doesn’t affect the car’s dynamism, and the car is undoubtedly quick, with 600bhp and 561lb-ft at the wheel from a twin-turbo V8, making the car dash from 0-62 in 3.4 seconds. The Roma offers extremely handsome looks, with a body-coloured grille and muscular rear haunches, and is by far the most svelte and elegant-looking Ferrari of recent times. The Roma definitely moves the game on from the Portofino and has superb wheel control, aided in part by a set of bespoke Pirelli P Zero tyres.
Interior and tech
The Roma has a great-looking interior, with the cabin almost split into two by a central bridge over the transmission tunnel, at the top of which rests a portrait infotainment screen. Behind the steering wheel also sits a 16” curved HD screen that can be personalised and that you can navigate using a touchpad on the right-hand side of the wheel. That’s not all, because you can also get a screen in front of the passenger, displaying information such as speed and RPMs. There are some slight problems with some of the systems, such as the start/stop function being hidden on the touchscreen, along with the button that opens the door. If you want tech, however, the Roma will not disappoint.
What are the running costs?
The Roma gets 24.8mpg combined, and its 3.9-litre V8 produces 260g/km of CO2, which is like one of its rivals, the Aston Martin DB11, which achieves 25-29mpg and has CO2 emissions of 270g/km. The Roma is still in production, so will depreciate heavily if you pile the miles on. Sticking to service intervals will be crucial in maintaining the condition of any Roma, and the fewer miles the car has, the more the car will retain its value.
